4th time to revisit this injury-we are trying something new this time!

Camp Fire-the gift that keeps on giving-ugh! Cowboy's leg has re-opened and gotten infected yet again. The original would injury from 2018 picture is down at the bottom of the page-it's pretty nasty and definitely not a sight for the faint of heart! Fair warning!

Healing time took approximately 6 months and included laser therapy, wound debriding several times, and multiple antibiotics both oral and topical topped of course by wraps.

The finished result ends with a very hard, like a chestnut, substance that grows, it got down to about the size of a quarter. Because he tends to bite at it, he continually wears a fetlock shield.

We went for an awesome ride at Bidwell Park on Saturday the 18th-everything was fine with his leg. The following days however was another deluge of rain. On Thursday it was farrier day-I began to take off his muddy nasty shield and was met with an open, painfully infected wound...again!

Luckily we were able to get an appointment with our vet that same afternoon, got him all cleaned up, antibiotic shot, a bit of Vetericyn and wrapped.

Because this is a chronic issue and I've seen some wonderful results-I am going to be treating with locally sourced raw honey with bandage changes every other day. Today was his second change-his pain is completely gone, although a bit gunky still and what appears to be to me, excess granule tissue forming-still it's looking a lot better than day 1

I'm very hopeful to see where this journey takes us.

Day 2-beginning Honey today
Day 4-after first honey treatment
Cowboy is a very good patient boy-a cookie afterwards helps!

The original injury is below-although the above pictures are kind of gross -below is worse.
